Holiday Gift Guide: Give a Gift to Support Your Parks

By Kelly Sanderbeck, Donor Development Manager

Socks, gift cards, chocolate? As we each try to find that PERFECT gift for our special people this season, please give a thought to our parks. Washington’s National Park Fund partners with several companies and organizations who give a percentage of your purchases back to the parks. Shop for a Cause, or a cause to shop?!!

Shopping at any of one of these incredible companies means every gift you give to a loved one, is also a give to the places you love the most!

EqpdBag

  • eqpd gear, has partnered with the Fund to create the ‘LastBag Built-for-a-Purpose’ where 50% of the sale is donated directly to the Fund. Based out of Twisp, WA, they tell us “Our products reflect the sense of purpose, simplicity and deliberate construction that Industrial Design was founded on. We believe our mission to share these principles will universally result in better products, being made in better ways, closer to your home.”

  • Parks Project Founders 3The idea for Parks Project started when two TOMS employees, Keith and Sevag, spent time volunteering in national parks. They learned from park staff about all the unique projects that needed funding, advocacy and support. So, out of that need (and their love for the parks), Parks Project was born. They created collections of park goods that directly fund backlogged projects in the parks. One example is that for every 500 products sold from the Olympic collection, one child from the Boys and Girls Club of the Olympic Peninsula is able to participate in the Big Backyard program at Olympic National Park for an entire summer.

Kraft and Catalyst Logo

  • Kraft & Catalyst is “a handcrafted apparel company of dreamers and adventurers, based in the evergreen state of Washington. We seek to unite the passionate and inspire the passionately curious by teaming up with local Pacific NW artists and non-profits to add to the greater good.

Kraft and Catalyst Northwest Tee Northwest Originals woodgrainOur garments are screen printed by hand, in small batches, by the brand founder and lead dreamer, plus a few good friends who share in our vision. We believe that a little love and a whole lot of passion for doing good will unite us all, and we hope that you will join us on our adventure.”

The company selects a new non-profit to donate to every six months, and the Fund is grateful to have been chosen this year. For every item purchased over $15, they will donate $3, and for every item less than $15, $1 will be donated to Washington’s National Park Fund to support projects in Mount Rainier, North Cascades, and Olympic National Parks.

  • The AmazonSmile Foundation donates 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice (Washington’s National Park Fund of course!). This way you can support the places you love the most, by giving your loved ones the things that they want the most!

But maybe your friends and loved ones are not looking for any more THINGS to add to their lives, but they are huge lovers of the parks? Consider a gift in their honor. (I always make up a little card to give my friends, ‘announcing’ my gift to a charity in their honor.) Plus, if you give us their contact information, we’ll send them a beautiful card featuring a stunning photo of one of our national parks, notifying them of your gift.

You can also give gifts by giving on Giving Tuesday. #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (SAVE THE DATE for November 28). Developed to counter the widely-recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

And, on your own time, you can always donate on the WNPF website. Just for the LOVE of our parks. Happy Holidays!
