Who We Are

Washington’s National Park Fund (WNPF) is the official philanthropic partner to Mount Rainer, North Cascades and Olympic National Parks.
We believe these parks are for everyone.

Mission

To raise private support to deepen everyone’s love for, understanding of, and experiences in Washington’s three national parks.

Vision

For our three parks to be strong and vibrant, youthful and everlasting.

Our Founders

WNPF was established in 1993 by former Governor and Senator Dan Evans, legendary mountaineer Lou Whittaker and other prominent community leaders. Together, they knew the three largest national parks in Washington state needed – and, most importantly, deserved – additional attention and financial support.

About Us

WNPF is a non-partisan organization, and it accomplishes its mission through the leadership of long-time CEO Laurie Ward and a small team of dedicated staff members and more than 20 passionate and engaged board members.

What We Do

Over the last decade, WNPF has awarded nearly $6 million to Mount Rainier, North Cascades, and Olympic National Parks, in addition to building the park endowments to $1.7 million. We are the only philanthropic organization dedicated solely to these three parks and 100% of donations stay in Washington state for this purpose.

The funds we raise help fund 30 to 40 projects annually. We work closely with the superintendent of each park, who select the priority projects for their respective parks. Projects fall into four core areas: advancing science and research, improving visitors’ experiences, expanding volunteerism and stewardship, and providing for youth and family programs.

With the help of our thousands of individual, corporate, and foundation supporters, we have enabled the purchase of critical search and rescue equipment, countless miles of trail maintenance, wildlife studies, meadow restoration teams, the removal of invasive species, shrinking glacier studies, and many other projects.

Financial Accountability

WNPF is registered with the Washington Secretary of State’s office (Tax ID #01-0869799).

We are committed to financial accountability to our donors and park partners. You can find our most recent IRS Form 990s as well as GuideStar’s summary report on our Financial Information page.
