Rangers in the Protection Division do not have Level 4 Armor available to them. This is the standard of body armor required to defeat most types of commonly encountered rifles. The Board of Review conducted to analyze the facts surrounding the 2012 Ranger Anderson murder at Mount Rainier stated that level 4 armor ought to be made available to law enforcement staff at MORA. The cost for the 14 units required will be approximately $6,700.

Mitigating risks in high-risk occupations like law enforcement is critical. Providing law enforcement staff with the core personal protective equipment recommended for the occupational hazards is important. Level 4 armor would be advised when confronting an incident where the likelihood of rifles is known or suspected.
