Join friends old and new as we explore the mountains, hike, camp (WOW and COW only), volunteer and hear about projects in our national parks. You show up and we’ll lead the way.

Take a hike…Seriously!

Bring your own water, lunch, snacks, etc. Bring the Ten Essentials. Be thinking about Leave No Trace.

Space is limited to the first twelve hikers. To sign up, send an email to rsvp@wnpf.org. Include the names of those you’d like to bring along (if any) and identify which hike you’d like to join us for!

Carpooling is an option; the staff person involved will serve as point of contact.
Lodging before/after all hikes is up to you.

Sahale Arm

Hike North Cascade National Park’s Sahale Arm with Board member, Fred Hammerquist and staff member, Amber Nelson. Jason Ransom, Chief Wildlife Biologist at North Cascades National Park will be on hand to tell us all about the incredible work being done in the park.

Hike Olympic National Park’s Obstruction Point to Deer Park with Lee Taylor, Acting Superintendent of Olympic National Park, and staff members Laurie Ward and Nicky Ducommun. Learn first-and about the park and the incredible work that’s funded by our many friends through WNPF.

Mount Fremont

Hike from Sunrise to Mount Fremont Lookout in Mount Rainier National Park with staff members Laurie Ward and Kelly Sanderbeck. Come alone or bring a few friends. Together, we’ll explore.


August 18th - 20th

Join us for the 2nd annual Women’s Only Weekend (WOW) at Mount Rainier National Park. Together with up to 29 other women, we’ll hike, do a few service projects in the park, sit around the campfire at night and enjoy coffee together in the early morning. Camping spaces are limited. This is an enjoyable, easy-going weekend. Time to relax! Contact Laurie Ward for more information.


August 30th

Let’s explore the Spruce Railroad Trail in Olympic National Park together! Board member Richard Page and staff member Laurie Ward will be your hosts for the day. Across from Lake Crescent Lodge, this trail has 20′ elevation gain so all are welcome. We’ll end the day with a gathering at the Lodge.

Mount Rainier

September 7th

Hike Mount Rainier National Park with friends from the South Puget Sound area, Mount Rainier Superintendent Randy King, and staff members Laurie Ward and Kelly Sanderbeck. Actual hike to be announced in late July. Join board member Linda Glein (Gig Harbor), former board member and retired ranger Cleve Pinnix (Olympia) and others in this exploration of the park. At the end of the day, we’ll meet up in Longmire to share a few stories and hear from Randy King.


September 15th - 17th

Friday, September 15th – Sunday, September 17th

Join us for the first annual Couple’s Only Weekend (COW) at Mount Rainier National Park. Couples will come together to hike/explore Rainier, do a few service projects, and build camaraderie around the evening campfire. Hosts will include Fred and Syd Hammerquist, staff members Laurie Ward and Nicky Ducommun, and others. Space is limited.


October 4th - 6th

Wednesday, October 4th – Friday, October 6th

Has hiking from the North Cascades into Stehekin been a long-held dream? Here’s your chance. Backpack from McAlester Pass to Stehekin with Board member, John Newhoff, and staff member, Nicky Ducommun. Backpacking skills, knowledge, experience and gear are a prerequisite. Group will coordinate gear (i.e., tents, etc.) as a team. This promises to be a most memorable few days. (And note: October 6 — 8 is WNPF’s Fireside Circle in Stehekin. Lodging will be available; space is limited.)
