News release: Trails -- the ultimate benefactors

Over $180,000 raised to help Washington’s three largest National Parks!

Seattle, WA – Tuesday, May 20, 2014
Washington’s National Park Fund’s annual Spring Dinner and Auction far exceeded its goal, raising over $180,000 for Mount Rainier, North Cascades, and Olympic National Parks.

Two hundred and fifty people joined park rangers and scientists from Mount Rainier, North Cascades and Olympic National Parks and showed their strong support for these iconic destinations. The “raise the paddle” portion of the evening this year was dedicated to trails and raised more than $53,000– money that goes specifically to support trail restoration on the 1,277 combined miles of trails in the three parks. "Trails are critical for us.They’re our highways. They’re the way people really get to experience the waterfalls, the glaciers, and the incredible peaks,” Karen Taylor-Goodrich, Superintendent of North Cascades National Park stated in a recent video.

Sarah Creachbaum, Superintendent of Olympic National Park, acknowledged both park staff and volunteers when she stated, “We have in-park trail crews that are artisans. They work harder than anybody I know in maintaining the trails of our parks but they can’t do it alone. It would be impossible to do the trail work that we need to do without volunteers. This is one of the many ways that Washington’s National Park Fund steps up, year after year.”

Many of the programs supported by Washington’s’ National Park Fund would not otherwise happen without public support. Says Randy King, Superintendent of Mount Rainier National Park, “Support from individual donors throughout the state and across the country through Washington’s National Park Fund is what makes this important work of caring for our National Parks possible. We couldn’t do it without the thousands of people who give so generously every year.” The date for next year’s event is Saturday, April 11, 2015.
