Engaging Urban Youth as Trail Stewards
This outstanding project allowed North Cascades National Park trails staff to provide supervision, training, and mentoring for organized groups bringing urban youth to the park, including Boy Scouts, Urban Wild, Passages Northwest, and YMCA. At least 100 young people (ages 11-16) participated in stewardship projects in the "back country" during the summer of 2011.
Introducing urban youth to North Cascades National Park creates new park stewards and connects the youth to the land, all while completing much needed trail work.
