The 2006 flooding on Mount Rainier spurred monumental volunteer engagement from the community to help with
recovery efforts. The situation – as well as the overwhelming community response – highlighted the need for a highly
organized, growing volunteer program. Funding for this program supported a Student Conservation Association intern
and a 4-month volunteer. These individuals worked with the full-time Volunteer Program Manager to coordinate the
park's volunteers, building on the successes of the 2007 and 2008 Mount Rainier Recovery Corps.
